“One small step towards creating a more walkable city, less dominated by cars, smog, and noise,” raved the Ottawa Citizen following the opening of this multiple award-winning pedestrian bridge over Ottawa’s Rideau Canal.
The contemporary design works on many levels; its light, elegant arched profile is respectful of the important heritage setting, while the concealed LED lighting provides crisp, clean accenting of the structure by night. It is no surprise that usage has exceeded all expectations.
The bridge’s proximity to the downtown core provides a new destination for visitors to the National Capital. It enables an inviting walking route that takes in both sides of the canal, with the bridge and its east approach offering new vantage points for spectacular views of Laurier Bridge, Chateau Laurier, Parliament Buildings and activity on the canal itself - from watercraft in the summer to thousands of skaters during Winterlude.
