“Delcan + DTAH's design consists of bold lines and dramatic flourishes.” Calgary Herald, September 23 2009
The Delcan + DTAH team's entry for the island hopping bridge over the Bow river was unveiled in the Calgary Herald in September of 2009.
We envision a design inspired by the meandering paths of river flow through the landscape.
The design responds to the unique scale and asymmetry of its river-island river crossing, comprising a longer 106m southern span and a shorter 60m northern span. A sinuous S-curve deck smoothly ripples across the two stretches of water, pausing to land on the west tip of St Patrick’s island.
The structural configuration generates a “weaving” geometric pattern which maximizes visual lightness and transparency. The sweeping curves and the texture of the arch components evoke quintessentially Canadian riverside images such as snowshoes, fishing nets and canoes.
